Since late last year you've been able to set up location-based alerts in Find My Friends which tell you when some arrives at or leaves a certain location. It's possible to temporarily hide your location for those moments when you really need your privacy, but to be honest most people probably forget they've even turned it on. Once you've authorised someone to view your location, you're not alerted when they actually use Find My Friends - so it's certainly something which a creepy friend or overly-possessive partner could abuse. It's an unnerving thought, even with someone you trust. While Facebook and Twitter have turned us into a society of oversharers, I think most of us would draw the line at sharing our exact location 24/7, except perhaps with our spouse. ![]() Find My Friends' definition of "Home" is so broad that still classifies you as at home even when it notes your street address as several houses away, so it won't catch you sneaking off for a quick beer with your neighbour. ![]() If you watch Find My Friends long enough you'll see a stationary friend occasionally rematerialise half a mile down the road and then quickly pop back again. Sometimes the iPhone's GPS accuracy is out by much more than 10 metres, so it's not really helpful for finding friends in a crowd.
